The F-1 Student Visa

Application process:

The application process for an F-1 visa includes the following steps:

4. Complete the DS-160 online visa application

5. Schedule an appointment for a visa interview at the U.S. embassy or consulate in your home country

Duration of stay:

The F-1 visa allows you to stay in the U.S. for the duration of your academic program, plus an additional 60 days after completion of your program. You are also allowed to enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the start of your program.

Work authorization:

F-1 students are allowed to work on campus for up to 20 hours per week while school is in session, and up to 40 hours per week during breaks and holidays.
